Forum Guide 287 175 BearThatCares

Like Discord, forums are a useful tool that serves an important purpose in Krypted Gaming. In this article, we’re going to give you an overview of when to use the forums, why to use the forums, and how to use them properly.

Why forums?

Before we talk about when to utilize our forums, it’s important to explain why we have them in the first place.

Often, Discord can become very busy due to many people talking throughout the day. We limit our channels in Discord to make sure that they are actively utilized, thus anything said in the morning is going to be gone by the time you’re off lunch break.

Furthermore, Discord has the problem of being too easy of a medium to say whatever is on your mind. However, as humans we typically need to shut up and think for a little while so that we can mull thinks over and form a productive response.

Enter forums.

Our forums are used to provide a slower-moving discussion board, with a better format for getting your thoughts across in a clear and cohesive message. This is crucial for discussions that solve actual issues, or when we need to get feedback to improve on something.

When should you use them?

Usually, it should be pretty obvious when you need to make a forum post.

  • If you want to hold a discussion and gather everyone’s input and feedback
  • When you want something to persist for more than a day or two
  • When you need better formatting to get your point across, like images and supporting material

Also, forums act as a great medium for da-doy links. If you’re tired of repeating something, make a forum post and re-link it whenever the topic comes up again.

Forums are pretty simple, you simply make a post in the proper board and link to it in Discord. Over time, people will check it out and give their responses.

A few things you should know:

  • Mentioning users will actually email them, so respect people’s privacy
  • Mentioning groups is a no-no unless you’re administrative staff
  • You can insert polls, images, and supportive material
  • Our forum software is called Discourse if you need to google for help

Now go make a forum post!
